Quick Headband

With a quick trip to Idaho in the works I managed to squeeze in the time to make a headband for my daughter to wear on Easter Sunday.
I started with a pre-made stretchy headband and added some bias tape with hot glue to make a base for the clippie to attach.
Using a free pattern I crocheted this super quick little flower. To the original chain 27, I added a few extra chains in order to make a slightly larger flower.
To the back of the flower I hot glued a metal clip and then hot glued a felt circle on top of that.
Complete! And very cute. Too bad my daughter refused to wear the headband, but thank goodness the removable clippie worked either way.
I think my daughter has gone long enough without a bunch of mama-made hair accessories. With how easy this whipped up I think I'll be up for making more to go with every outfit.

Another Scarfette

I crocheted another scarfette recently. I love it because it is a fairly quick and easy gift. Maybe one of these days I will make one for myself...
The basic idea is just take any scarf design that you like, shorten it, and add buttons to one end. I used this scarf pattern.

Brimmed Cap

I love this little hat. My daughter looks so grown up which reflects how I feel these days. Didn't we just come home from the hospital? I can't believe she is walking and growing teeth and communicating already! Anyway I love this hat. I crocheted it using this free pattern on Ravelry (you'll need to sign up for a free membership in order to view it). I used an off-white wool yarn and embellished with a clip-on hair pin which can be easily exchanged whenever I feel the urge. Oh and the pattern was easy. So don't feel intimidated!

Earflap Hat for all ages

I just finished up another gift for my daughter. It's this cute little earflap hat that really took no time at all. The pattern is free from Neanners Shop and easy enough to follow. I love the braids on either side and I know my little girl will love playing with them as well. Also it comes with directions for sizes newborn-adult so I am thinking hubby and I need matching hats as well... or is that too cheesy?
About the pattern: Instead of working this holding two strands together I worked it with only one and it turned out fine. The main yarn I used was a dusty purple from Lion Brand.

The Guy Hat

I just finished this beanie for a guy on my Christmas list. It turned out to be just what I was wanting it to be. Warm with no frills. I got the pattern free on Ravelry's website and honestly I had a little trouble figuring it out. In the end it turned out perfectly and now I will know what to do for next time. The main color yarn I used was linen from Lion Brand and I used most of the skein.

Head Warmer

I came up with this easy crocheted headwarmer the other day. It's made with increasing rows of dc worked in the back loops and then decreasing down the other side. You can leave it at that or finish it with ss all around the edge. Securely add two buttons to the back and you are done. Embellish with a great big rose if you like.
I hotglued a circle of felt with a clip stuck in a slot in the middle to the back of the rose to make it removable. A nice quick gift.

a Costume for Hubby

Since I am going to be a flower for Halloween and my little girl a ladybug, hubby decided he would be a spider. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out the best way to give him four more legs, but for starters I thought I would finish the easy part of the costume: giving him six extra eyes.
I started with Oakland Black Lion Brand Yarn I picked up at Walmart for about $3 and used the entire length to  crochet a simple beanie. The yarn was so thick that the project worked up very quickly and easily, but in the end it wasn't quite long enough so I added a band of gold which hubby picked out from my stash. Then I simply hot glued some black circles to some larger white circles and sewed these to the hat so that later we can cut the thread and hubby can use the hat after Halloween.
And now if I run out of time Hubby will still have a simple costume even if I can't finish those giant black legs to match. Did I mention I hate spiders?

Baby Beanie and Booties

A dear friend of mine had her first child a few weeks ago and I knew her little girl would need some booties. All little girls do.

I decided to go ahead and purchase a pattern because all of the cutest patterns come at a cost and I knew I would use it over and over anyway. I love them. The first bootie I tried came out huge. But then I used a smaller hook and that seemed to do the trick.

I also made a hat to match which was very simple and will be warm for that sweet little head. I made the hat a little bigger by increasing an extra round because the pattern was meant for a preemie.

And of course the hat needed a cute flower which I made into a removable clip using hot glue and a clippie. It was easier than expected because I usually shy away from crocheted flowers that need to be sewn but it came out perfectly.

The yarn I used was so soft and it was fun to make little baby things again. Baby projects are fast and oh so rewarding (especially because it gives you an excuse to visit a tiny angel).

a Scarfette

...or cowl... I'm not really sure what you would call this, but I love the way it turned out.It started with a cool scarf design... but then I ran out of yarn. Instead of buying more, it sat unfinished for a few months waiting to be dealt with until I saw this idea of a cowl with buttons. Viola! I shortened what I already had and added these cool metal buttons I found.

my baby pumpkin

I think it is fitting that my fall baby get her very own pumpkin beanie. I saw this and thought it was way too cute to not try out. I can't wait to try it on her.

for baby

I recently was able to take a trip to visit my parents in Kentucky for a week. And what a productive week it was. We spent lots of time shopping, crafting, eating good food, and visiting around the fire on the back porch.

Did I mention crafting?

First off, a baby toy I crocheted stuffed with plastic bags to give it a slight crinkling noise when squeezed. Good for church I think. In real life it is mostly purple with white. It is hard to tell in this picture. Here's a sling I talked my mother into making for me to carry the little one around in that goes around my neck and shoulder. And a nursing cover my mother also did for me made out of nice, heavy-duty fabric for privacy. And finally a little quilt perfect for snuggling. The inside fabric is this beautiful yellowish fabric that is oh so soft. It's good to go home every once-in-awhile, especially when you come back with a suitcase full of new and pretty things for your little girl.
P.S. Did you notice my new rocking chair? I bought it second-hand for very cheap.

apple cozy

Ok, this is a little silly I know. But when I saw this on ravelry I just thought it was the cutest thing ever. Plus I was able to finish it in the time I had waiting for Hubby to get out of class one day. Isn't it just adorable? Supposedly it will keep my apples from bruising when I throw them into my purse. Also a lot of people were making them as teacher appreciation gifts... which is so cute in my opinion. I need to come up with a reason to make these...

A simple cowl

Don't ask me how to pronounce it (i'm new to this crafty thing), but I love this cowl I made for myself. It only took a couple of hours and most of it came together on a drive up to Park City with Hubby.
I had actually forgotten about it for awhile because it has been so warm here, but recently winter has shown up again so I've pulled it out to keep me nice and toasty.

An experiment

I've been seeing these winter headbands (or whatever they are called) all over lately. They are super cute and seemed easy enough to make so I thought I'd give it a try. I couldn't find a pattern on my trusty free site except for knitting and I have not yet learned that craft. So I made up my own pattern. It turned out pretty well don't you think? I think if I do this again I'll make the main part of the band much thicker, but other than that I still love what I was able to produce.
