We are not huge into the Valentines holiday around here, but I thought it would be nice to add a little touch of Valentines to my front door. All I did was add a couple of hearts to my current wreath I've had since November.
For the purple heart, cut two strips of felt 1x4 inches. For the white heart, cut two strips of felt 1x6 inches. Hot glue them all together and add a piece of thread to the middle to hang from the top of your wreath. Not much effort and only uses scraps. Sounds like the perfect addition to my decor.

Harvest Wreath
I have redone my wreath again. This time I bought a new straw wreath (about $3 at JoAnns) because I knew once I took the time to finish this one I would never want to change it up. I got the tutorial here and followed it exactly. I would have even done the exact color scheme, but decided to use the felt I had on hand instead. Oh and the yarn I bought from Walmart for about $2.80 and had a ton left over.
I love how it turned out. I love the colors and the texture. I think in the future I may want to change up the colors of the flowers so they are simply pinned into place for easy removal. And as always, my little helper is underfoot wondering what her crazy Mama is doing with the camera.

Wreath Redo: Birthday
I have changed up my door ornament once again. This time it is in honor of my little one turning one. I think I have been in denial about her growing up because I waited until the last minute to even plan anything for her party. Luckily I already had her present tucked away months ago and it wasn't something I was planning on making. I bought her a little wooden train handmade in Kentucky that I just couldn't pass up at a farmer's market I visited.
First things first I needed to work on the wreath to replace my Halloween decor. I started by wrapping my wreath with some white lace and then a pastel pink fabric.
The white flower was rolled using hot glue and a one inch strip of fabric. The purple flowers were 2 and 1.25 inch circles hot glued together.
The banner was made by cutting a two inch wide strip of the white fabric and cutting out triangles using my rotary blade and straight ruler every two inches. I wrote 'Happy Birthday' using a purple permanent marker which bled a lot more than expected, but I kind of liked the result so I kept it. I crocheted a long chain of yarn and then went back up the chain with hdc to make the 'rope' for my banner.
I pinned the rope to my wreath and pinned my letters into place to get the spacing just right. One by one I then removed the pin and hot glued each letter to the yarn rope.
The final flower I crocheted out of the same purple yarn used for the rope.
Around here we celebrate birthday weeks (and sometimes birthday months). Let the celebrating begin :)

Wreath Redo: Halloween
It's time for my wreath to get a makeover now that we are coming up on Halloween. I stripped my wreath down, but kept the muslin wrapped around it and added 1/4 yard of black halloween lace for $0.80 and two sheets of 9x12 felt for $0.25 each all from JoAnns. The rubber spider was a budget buster at $3 from Walmart.
I started by cutting three longs strips out of my lace, each one was about 3 inches wide. Then I started wrapping. Silly me I ran out of fabric, but I eventually covered that up with a tie to hang it from so it ended up working out.I cut my sheets of felt into one inch strips and used this tutorial to make my flowers. These flowers are a bit more of a pain than the easy peasy fabric rolled flowers, but they created a cool effect that I really wanted for this wreath. The hard part is just having the patience to cut every little strip along the felt one by one.
I can't wait for my little girl's first Halloween.

Feeling Renewed
There's something about fall. I get giddy every year just thinking about this special time of year. I feel renewed. I feel energetic and ready to just do more. I get the itch to craft, fill my freezer full of food, and make warm things for my family to wear. This year has been no different. I have already crocheted several hats and completed some projects I had been putting off.
One of my first projects was something to beautify my front door.
I started with a straw wreath from JoAnn's for less than $3. I left the plastic wrap on the wreath and then covered it with strips of muslin about 3 inches thick. I didn't tie or glue anything. Just kept wrapping and tucking the ends under itself. Then I ripped up some old t-shirts and hot glued together the rosettes in random sizes. I used one little pin inserted in the middle of each of them to secure to the wreath so that it would be easy to change up with the different seasons.
The only thing I bought was the wreath (I'm trying to use up my mountain of crafting supplies) and the whole project was so quick and easy to do even with the distraction of the little one.
I am so glad it is fall.
